House of Arts

Across the Universe

The House of Arts exhibition at Hangar-7 brings together artists working in different media, from painting and photography to sculpture, in the spirit of a "crossover". It is an encounter between eight artists with different origins, formal languages and artistic intentions that impressively demonstrates the scope and diversity of contemporary art. Nevertheless, all the artists share an engagement with reality, which always forms a point of reference for their works. Yet their realism scarcely corresponds to a wholly decipherable system in which the visible corresponds perfectly with the legible. In fact, when looking at the realistic representations, what becomes clear is that it cannot be exclusively about the visual recognition of what is depicted, nor solely about the seamless decoding of an image content, the reality of which often lies outside the image. This only has the role of an association field. The subject of the image - whether figure, text, or form - turns into a visual stimulus and guides us far into the artists' formal approaches.
